Research Diets, Inc. Where NutriPhenomics Begins

Our Company

1984- Research Diets, Inc began producing and formulating custom purified-ingredient diets for
lab animals. We have worked hand-in-hand with universities, CRO's, pharmaceutical companies, laboratories, non- profit and government institutions to provide diet solutions for specific diet
induced disease models. One such model in the study of obesity led to the development of the
"Original" High-Fat Diet series in 1998, which has set the standard for today's DIO research.

2000- The 1st generation BioDAQ ® food intake and behavior monitor was introduced to the research community. As the result of great advances in technology the 2nd generation BioDAQ was developed and introduced in 2005 and has revolutionized how investigators approach food intake studies. Learn more.

2003- Research Diets, Inc. establishes a Resource Center presently staffed with eight (8) nutrition scientists. Our nutritionists search current scientific literature on a regular basis to help assist the research community with choosing appropriate diets for their studies.

2006- Research Diets, Inc. has redefined purified-ingredient lab animal diets with the introduction of OpenSource Diets™. Unlike grain-based chows, OpenSource Diet formulas can be reported, repeated and revised again and again. Since each nutrient is supplied by a separate, purified ingredient the researcher can control the composition of this crucial reagent in their experiments. OpenSource Diet formulas are open meaning that they are published and available to the scientific community. Learn more.

2007- Research Diets, Inc. introduces BioDAQ Unplugged. The food intake monitor is ideally suited for rat and mouse studies where periodic weighings ( hourly, daily, weekly ) are sufficient. The simple home cage design affords ease of use, accurate food intake measurements and is easily upgraded to an electronic BioDAQ system. Learn more.

The combination and synergy of OpenSource Diets and the BioDAQ food intake and behavior monitor, has placed Research Diets, Inc. on the forefront of the study of dietary effects on phenotype expression. What we like to call NutriPhenomics ®.

The Research Diets, Inc. campus is located in New Brunswick, NJ consisting of two (2) adjacent buildings. OpenSource Diets production and scientific support teams occupy the first and the BioDAQ production, R&D and technical support teams occupy the second.
